Staying in Shape and Looking Good

Words like ‘fleece’ and ‘hillside’ don’t quite conjure up mental images of polished glamour, but rest assured, it’s possible to be an outdoorsy type and still look full-on fabulous. Your style icon needs to be somewhere between British gentry and California boho – depending on the weather, of course. Think Kate Middleton at Coachella, and you’ll be on the right track. Read on for a guide that will bring your hillside look from middle-aged to pap-worthy.

The footwear

Save the stilettoes and sling backs for the red carpet darlings, on rough terrain, you need the footwear equivalent of a 4 wheel drive. While most hillwalkers prefer a pair of walking boots, they can be a hassle to break in, so in a pinch, you can style your look with your cross or trail running shoes, as long as they have a sturdy sole and fit well.

The garb

Forget all those twee Arran knits and moody parkas you see in fashion spreads – one downpour and you’ll be as out of place as a mountain goat on the beach at Cannes. Instead, work your layers. Thermals (no-one need know!) first, and a light, thin wool which can be stripped off if you get too hot. Jeans are a no-no, instead, layer leggings for a streamlined look, or wear a pair of walking shorts to let your legs breathe when they’re getting hot and bothered. Just don’t forget the sun cream – lobster stems are a big no-no, even out in the sticks.

Accessories

Heading for the hills is quite the jaunt, so you’ll need a few bits and pieces to make the venture a success. On bright days, a pair of sunglasses is a must, as is a hat. You may want to consider bringing along a navigation device for tricky trails, especially if your smart phone’s IQ tends to plummet in remote areas. Keep your pout pert in the face of a wind chill by keeping a pot of lip balm to hand, and keep plenty of water in your backpack for hydrated, clear skin.
Walking is a great way to get fit, explore the landscape and reclaim your glow. The good news? You don’t have to sacrifice your style to go the country mile. Happy trails!

Not only for workout, but I dress like this on a weekly basis. Being comfortable and cute is definitely possible. My favorite store to get the cutest workout clothing is Lulu Lemon at Trolley Square. They have the cutest workout pants, tops, and bras! I got to do some Christmas shopping at Trolley square and of course ended up buying a few things for myself. :)

How is your Christmas shopping going? Christmas is in 10 days, so crazy!!

XOXO
